Can Tarot Predict or Determine Fate?
Introduction
You may have wondered if tarot can predict or even determine someone’s fate. Although my passion is astrology, I do have many interests in all kinds of subjects. So, this article expresses my opinion on the logic behind how tarot works. Before I try to answer this question “can tarot predict or determine fate”, let me remind you of what tarot is.
What is Tarot?
Tarot has been around since the middle ages. It is basically a card deck, usually consisting of 78 cards. They are similar to playing cards as they contain organised groups of numbers, but differ due to the fact they also have symbolic images. A tarot card reading starts by the cards being shuffled, some are then laid face down on a table. The tarot card reader will then follow a procedure revealing certain cards to their client at a time. They will then interpret each card and relate that to the client’s life.
How could tarot predict or determine someone’s fate I hear you ask?

How Tarot Card Readings Work
You have probably heard the phrase “everything happens for a reason”. And this is the main principle behind tarot. That certain cards are preselected by fate, the spirit world, or a similar belief. In-fact, if you believe there is a spirit world, then you will probably believe in tarot.
I personally do not believe in a spirit world, as I am not religious. But I really can see why people are religious. There have been many times in life I have looked at nature and thought wow, what a coincidence. Then it gets me thinking, is it?
You must have had such a feeling too at some point in your life.
Coincidence or Fate?
Here are some examples of what I mean, things based on scientific fact. You can then judge for yourself if that scientific phenomenon is just a coincidence, or something more.
The Moon Perfectly Fits Over our Sun
Has you ever watched a lunar eclipse, it is an amazing site. But what is more amazing is that the moon seems to perfectly fit over the sun during a solar eclipse. When you really think about it, what are the chances of this happening if our universe come about by pure chance. Especially as the sun is so large compared to our moon. It just so happens that the Sun is 400 times larger than our moon, and also 400 times further away from earth than the moon. These perfect distances and scales create the illusion that the sun and moon are the same size in the sky. Now ask yourself, could you be confident this really is a coincidence?

Is Luck an Illusion?
Luck is the chance or possibility of something happening. The best way to describe luck is to try and predict a number before rolling a dice. The probability of rolling any number between 1 and 6 is 1/6, or 16.6%. What if we knew more about the dice roll, such as its trajectory and velocity. Theoretically, a computer could calculate the number the dice would land on, if we knew enough about the dice’s starting conditions. Therefore, luck can come across as an illusion. If you have no luck or chance, then are you left with fate?
Repeating patterns in Nature
Ever heard of a fractal? Probably not. Fractals are simply repeated pattern in nature. But what is interesting about these particular patterns is that they look the same at different magnifications. Therefore the pattern looks the same at a smaller and larger scale. Tree’s are a good example of fractals. Although a tree appears to be a complex structure, it is actually formed by repeating a process over and over again. If you look closely at nature, you will see that we are surrounded by fractals. This means our world might not appear as random as you might think, but is actually full of repeating “predictable” patterns.

Are we in a Simulation?
Ever played a computer game called THE SIMS. This computer game tries to simulate real life. But what if computer technology becomes so powerful that it could simulate our world exactly. Imagine being a character in the SIMS, would you know if you were in a simulation? The more we know about are world scientifically, the more it could be a simulation. Science cannot disprove it is a simulation! But if it was, then we likely live in a predetermined world.
Conclusion
Can tarot predict or determine fate? Well, you will have to decide for yourself. It is clear our universe is indeed a mysterious one. Most people who believe in fate, believe in religion. But there can be different reasons for a predetermined world, such as the simulation theory. It all comes down to whether or not you believe a higher intelligence is responsible for the order in our universe. Think to yourself, would you place your bets on a world that was created by a higher intelligence, or created out of complete random chance?
